There will be thousands of smiling faces on Tyneside on February 18th when Sunday for Sammy reaches another milestone in it's 18 year history.
Sunday for Sammy - The Geordie Command Performance - has sold out for both the afternoon and evening performances at the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena.
The show is a celebration of North Eastern culture, many of the region's most popular and successful performers have taken part in the extravaganza of comedy and music staged biennially raising funds to support the next generation of promising North Eastern performers with training, expenses and equipment.
In previous years the City Hall shows sold out within days of tickets going on sale but as Sunday for Sammy producer, Ray Laidlaw explained:
“The Arena has seen steady, sustained sales after an initial rush for the best seats in the house. It’s a fantastic venue for Sunday for Sammy. Everything is bigger allowing us more flexibility with sets, lighting, effects and the show content itself. We sold thousands of tickets within the first few days but having more tickets available has meant that it has taken us a little longer to announce our sold out status.”
“The traditional ‘Sammy’ perception is that the show sells out extra quick. Of course that’s true now which is great news for the Trust and those that are lucky enough to have tickets. We promise them the biggest and best show yet.”
"We've got a show packed with familiar famous Geordie faces and a whole host of celebrity guests who are mega-excited to be doing 'Sammy' for the first time. I daren't say anything else but they're all very keen to get cracking."
“I was finalising the cast line up a few days ago and it occurred to me that this year we have over 20 new faces in the 88 strong cast who have never appeared in a ‘Sammy’ show before. We have some really funny new sketches including one written by close friends of the show Ian La Frenais and Dick Clement writers of Auf Wiedersehen Pet and Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads.”
There is however a glimpse of hope for those who have missed out on tickets as Ray explained:
“We’re in the final stages of production, finalising technical positions for the camera crew and special effects team. So as soon as the telly lads have hatched their plans, and we’ll do our best to hurry them up I promise, we could have as many as 60 new seats with cracking views very close to the action available.”
Ray added “We’ll be announcing when the production tickets are going on sale in the press and on social media as soon as we know. Like everything with Sunday for Sammy tickets, it’s get in quick before they go and never give up hope.”
